Welcome back, lovely reader! How was your weekend? Hopefully, you had a chance to unwind and smell the roses (mine are still buried beneath the spring snow).
I’ve a talent for getting obsessed over a polish, months after its release, and moments after every bottle of the stuff is nowhere to be found.
Such was the story with My Boyfriend Scales Walls (aka MBSW), that OPI grey-ish khaki neutral creme released last summer, as part of the label’s limited-edition Spiderman collection.
I passed on so many opportunities to purchase this pretty polish, and it subsequently – you guessed it – sold out. From that point on, MBSW was my Holy Grail. Everywhere lacquer was found, I searched for a bottle of this rarefied thing, to no avail.
That’s why I was grinning ear-to-ear when MBSW arrived in the mail last week, part of a St. Patty’s Day gift exchange with the lovely ABC Challenge girls.
My Secret Elf was none other than Meredith, who also gifted me a precious bottle of Horse Power, butterLONDON‘s raved-about nail nutrient/basecoat/miracle-potion (a small fortune at $20US). Horse Power is said to be infused with a combination of herbs that are beneficial in building strong and healthy nails. I’ve been dying to try this stuff, and began using it right away. Will report back in two weeks with my findings.
So, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you, dear Meredith! You’ve made me so very happy. Kinda like the Blood, Sweat and Tears tune, from before you were gleam in your grandmother’s eye. Love ya, darlin’!!! Love your gifts!!!
Now, onto the Monday Mani…
MBSW is a self-leveling pale, pale, pale white-grey creme. It took four very thin coats to achieve opacity.
It’s easy to understand why nail artists have been lauding this lacquer. MBSW makes a perfect canvas for whatever’s to come. Can’t you imagine freehand, stamping, decals, etc. on this one? Me, too!
Today, however…I’m taking it easy (it’s Monday, for crying out loud!) and inaugurating a bottle of newly purchased Black Cat Lacquer Sanitation Twins, a colorful and complex indie glitter top coat.
What makes it so complex? From the polish maker herself…
We’re here to tell you all about the new recycling bins! Cardboard & newspaper, blue! Plastic & aluminum, black! Yard waste, YELLER! Coffee cup sleeves, orange! Stir sticks, brown! Cups, periwinkle! Lids, fuchsia! Lipstick lids, rose! Broken umbrellas & broken hearts, canary! Lotion, chartreuse! Lotion bottles, green! Fingernails & eggshells, cobalt!
This polish has it all!
You know what they say…
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
Sanitation Twins is an absolute treasure! Throw in a smattering of hand-drawn triangles and you’ve got yourself the stunning suggestion of a Kandinsky painting. Right? I can’t help imagining this topper over a host of other base colors: neon and pastel; yellow, blue, pink, etc.
As for application, the glitter in this one was easy to get out of the bottle and onto the nail. No fishing expeditions here. I applied a single thick coat, to each nail. One thing to note, however: the next time I use this topper, I’ll need to add a little polish thinner to the bottle. By the time I’d applied one thick coat to all my fingers, the formula had begun gunking up a bit. That’s not uncommon with polishes of this kind, and easily rectified with a squirt of thinner.
Sanitation Twins sells for $9US, comes in a 15 mL glass bottle, and can be found in the label’s Etsy shop.
Thanks so much for dropping by.
Hope your Monday is a happy one!
