Happy Independence Day to all of our American readers! To celebrate this national holiday, I decided to try my hand at a manicure that screams “AMERICA!”
With that in mind, I started out with a foundation of white and black so that my nail art would really pop! My tried and true favorites (Cult Nails Nevermore and Zoya Purity) provided excellent coverage so that I could move on to the main event.
Over Nevermore, I used two coats of Chaos & Crocodiles‘ Star of the Parade – this is a real stunner of a glitter polish – and the mix of red, white, and blue hexes, hearts, and stars capture the spirit of the 4th of July beautifully! Against a black background it really reminds me of fireworks lighting up the night sky. Two thick layers of top coat helped to smooth the glitter down to a glossy finish. Luckily I was able to pick up a bottle during the last C&C sale – I’m sad to say that it was the restock for Star of the Parade.
Now, the white accent nails are really what I’m most proud of in this manicure. I had a lot of fun painting swatches of Zoya Nidhi (a lovely, shimmery red) and Wet ‘n Wild Root of All Evil (a bold navy shimmer) onto a ziplock bag. Once the polish had dried, I dug out my pinking shears and a regular pair of scissors and got to cutting out zig-zag stripes and triangles. Gently placing the homemade decals over Purity and sealed the whole shebang ever so gently with top coat.
I had so much fun putting this manicure together, and now I’m incredibly excited to play around with more homemade polish decals in the future! Have you done something similar with your polishes? I would love to hear about it – especially if you have any tips to share! I hope that if you’re reading this you have a safe and relaxing 4th of July – whether you celebrate the American Independence Day or not.
