A Perfect Summer Mani Combo: Sand, Surf and Sky

Lisa writes . . .

You can tell a lot about a person by the manicure she (or he) keeps.

Take, for instance, the mani above…

Here we’ve a woman who’s painted her nails the color of sky and surf, and then gilded those tips with grains of golden sand.

Check her out…she’s just to the left of that palm tree over there, her tanned foot tapping out a reggae beat on the chaise lounge.  Is that the second or third piña colada she’s sipped this afternoon?

Hey, did you catch the sunglasses she’s wearing?  The big “celebrity” kind!  And don’t miss the thick suspense novel she carries from towel to chaise, and chaise to tiki bar.

I tell you, this woman is steeped in “beach-mode,”  with nary a care in the world.

And all this…is evident from her manicure.

Well, not really…

In point of fact, the mystery woman happens to be me.

I’m nowhere near surf or sand, but I can assure you of this…

After a lovely five days away from the office, my head is in the summer clouds; and…

Some colors, like the two we have here – that glossy aqua creme that is My Lifesaver (Nicole by OPI), and the golden liquid sand finish of Honey Ryder, from the OPI Bond Girls Collection –  just naturally lend themselves to beachy daydreams.

Don’t you think?

For today’s mani….

I applied three thin coats of My Lifesaver over a base of OPI Nail Envy.  I sealed the color with one layer of Seche Vite fast-dry top coat.

As far as nail art goes, these gilded tips were a breeze to create!  Once the top coat was bone-dry on my main color, I affixed Nailene Perfect Tip Guides to delineate a neat edge, applied a quick and even coat of Honey Ryder, and then peeled back the tape for a satisfying reveal.

Ordinarily, with French-tip manis, I like to apply a final layer of top coat to blend any lines of demarcation between the tip and base polishes.  But not today.

I took a pass on that extra shine, because I wanted to retain the beachy grittiness of the Honey Ryder sand finish.

Well, there you have it:  another LOZLOSA mystery solved, and a perfect summer color combo, to boot!

So, what are your plans for the summer?  Headed to any beachy destinations?  And what’s your “go-to” summer color combo?  Let me know, in comments! 🙂

Wow that looks amazing! Letting the tips sandy is the best choice for this manicure (and the daydream you wrote down!) 😀

This is so, so summer! It’s the perfect combo for going to the beach, or for wearing while wishing you were at the beach (that’s me, it’s so chilly over here in Aus right now!)

    Beautiful!

Thanks, Raquel. Now, all I need to do is find myself a beach! 🙂

TY, My sweets! I got a kick out the sand, albeit nail sand, and not REAL sand. 🙂

Yes, I’m concerned about all of my Aussie friends. You folks are wintering right now, while the rest of us are talking beaches. Perfectly unfair, I say. I think it’s time we brought you all over here for a holiday. A nail holiday 🙂 Just think of all the fun we could get into together! And…when it’s summer in your place, we can simply flip flop.

Imagine the manicuring possibilities! 🙂 <3
