Step Right Up for Chaos & Crocodiles’ Balloon Darts!!!

Lisa writes…

Hi, everybody!  Happy Almost Weekend!

I’ve got a super polish to share with you today from the indie polish-maker, Chaos & Crocodiles (C&C)!

Balloon Darts is a custom-made glitter topper that I began pining for in March, when a small batch of the stuff appeared for sale on the C&C site, along with another newbie:  DDC (Double Decker Carousel), a lavender creme-based glitter. Several weeks later, when it was next re-stocked, Balloon Darts and DDC emerged as part of the label’s first-ever “themed” set:  the cohesive 8-bottle Carnival Collection  (think: moonlit ferris wheels, fluffy cotton candy, balloon dart games, double decker carousels, etc.).  Somehow, I managed to miss both sales.

That’s why I was so tickled when a few weeks ago, the brand’s polish-maker, Sarey Booth-Neades conducted a re-stock at the label’s new shop on the web, and Balloon Darts was among the returnees.  This time, I made a point of nabbing a bottle for myself!

Balloon Darts features large translucent neon hexes of yellow, pink, green, fuschia, orange and blue (the “balloons”), and a veritable light show of small gold and silver holographic circles (the “darts”).  This unique blend is suspended in a clear lacquer base that’s been ever-so-lightly sprinkled with teensy-tiny iridescent glitter particles.  The combination of particle sizes, textures and  carnival colors is beautifully balanced and spot-on to the theme.

As for the genesis of that theme, Sarey tells me…

“I LOVE amusement parks and carnivals, so after I created the first two polishes [Balloon Darts and DDD], I realized that a Carnival Collection was inevitable. I went to three parks/carnivals before releasing the collection – it really was to do research and take pictures, but I can’t say I didn’t have fun!”

 Here now, are the swatches…

Balloon Darts (Chaos and Crocodiles), over L to R (base colors):  Cream Tea (ivory crelly/butterLONDON), Muggins (lilac creme/butterLONDON), Bossy Boots (pistachio creme/butterLONDON pistachio creme), and Lady Muck (periwinkle pearl/butterLONDON).

Balloon Darts over Bread and Butter Pudding (ivory pink crelly/butterLONDON)

Like other large-particle glitters, Balloon Darts works best when the brush is first swirled around in the bottle, and the resulting particles are then applied in small amounts, with smooth brushstrokes.  I applied 1.5 coats of Balloon Darts over each nail, meaning that after that first thin layer,  a tiny bit of touching up was needed on those areas where I sought more coverage.

TIP:  Keep an orange stick or dotting tool nearby, to quickly move stray hexes into position!

For a different vibe, let’s take a look at 1.5 coats of Balloon Darts over Honey Ryder, OPI’s gold-toned “liquid sand” polish…

Though the “sand” loses its matte finish once the shiny Balloon Darts is spread atop, I’m loving the end result!
FYI, Balloon Darts goes for $10.50US on C&C’s website, and on Etsy, where at the current time, stock is sold out.
But don’t lose heart, because according to Sarey…
“The upcoming restock will be in a few weeks and it will be the biggest yet! If you are a collector of limited edition C&C polishes, you won’t want to miss it!”
I’ll be there. That’s for sure!  How about you?

Until next time, here’s hoping you have a great weekend, and thanks so much for stopping by!

I’ve got Darling Diva’s Sugar Rush…wonder if it would have a similar look over a textured polish. Gonna have to try it! Another knock out, Lisa!
