Lisa says. . .
In case you haven’t noticed, New York Fashion Week is underway, and anybody who’s anybody is jumping from one catwalk to the next. Well, maybe “jumping” is the wrong word. “Skiing” might be more appropriate, what with the sidewalks still heaped with snow, and more on the way. Brrrrr.
It used to be that NYFW was conducted “under the tents” at Bryant Park. Then, as the event grew, it was moved to Lincoln Center. Nowadays, it’s All Over The Place, as the celebrity manicurist/lacquer-maven Deborah Lippmann noted in her Instagram feed yesterday, “Baby it’s cold outside! And none of my fashion week stops are anywhere near the others.”
I’ve been watching the event’s live feed, from the comfort of The Polish Room (a/k/a Liz’s re-purposed bedroom), where tropical daydreams have inspired the colorful abstract butterflies that flit across today’s nails…
Don’t know about you, but for me, this mani evokes sunshine and frosty cold Margaritas (jumbo, on the rocks with salt, please)? Have I mentioned that I’m so over winter?
As for how-to, ’twas a cinch. I first pulled a fanciful collection of bright cremes and shimmers from the stash, as well as a white creme, a gold holo, and a black striper.
Then, when it came time to play, I randomly painted swaths here, stripes there, and a dot or two around and about…
Sweet, simple, and best of all…comfortably warm at home, with that NYFW live feed in the background.
Here’s hoping the weather thaws by next month, when I head in to Manhattan for the International Beauty Show (IBSNY). Last year, because of crossed signals, I couldn’t get my hands on a press pass for love or money. This year, I’m rich with not one, but TWO passes: press and pro.
“Pro?” you might (or might not) be asking. Well, actually “graduated student” is a more apt description here.
Last fall, I completed a semester’s course of study in nail anatomy, polish chemistry, physiology, infection control, skin structure, nail diseases, etc. This lacquer-lovin’ family law paralegal is at the threshold of receiving her New York State nail technician license! I’ll write more about my plans in a future post. Polish is a wonderful obsession!
But back to NYFW and the bitter temps…
The forecast calls for more of the same, so keep warm and toasty! If you happen to pass the inimitable Deborah Lippmann as she zips in and out of the shows, please take a moment to recommend a hot chocolate, and give her a warm hug from me. I’m one of her devoted fangirls!
