This Mani Has Soul, But It’s Not A Soldier (an ode to grayscale polish)

Liz says…

Hello, Darlings! I don’t know about your neck of the proverbial woods, but it has started feeling like SUMMER and I’m already over it. If I had my way, it would be Fall all year round, and it would be perfection. Perhaps it’s my general loathing of overly warm weather, or a simple case of being contrary for the sake of being contrary, but today’s manicure certainly has more of a “Winter is coming” feeling to it instead of a warm breezes, “Come to Jamaica” vibe… and it feels so good!

I was perusing through my stash and came across one of my all time favorite glitter polishes. Rainbow Honey’s Soldier is a drop-dead gorgeous gunmetal gray glitter topper (try saying THAT five times fast!). It applies like a dream and it makes me feel like a badass every time I wear it – what’s not to love?! I love how cool this gray is. It reminds me of light reflecting off water and ancient swords.

Inspiration hitting me like a freight train, I pulled out Essence’s Chic Reloaded and Ciate’s Cream Soda along with a reel of striping tape and some purple studs. The way that I see it, the only thing cooler than wearing Soldier on it’s own is wearing it in a grayscale manicure.

In hindsight, I made this manicure so much more difficult than necessary… I started out with Chic Reloaded as my base color. Once dried, I laid out some striping tape and applied Cream Soda on top. So far, so good, right? NO! Ugh. I didn’t account for applying a glitter polish to such a small chevron. It was a mess, and took forever with a tiny brush, just… dabbing Soldier onto my nails. Moral of the story – lay down your glitters before setting striping tape in order to maintain crisp, straight lines. Either that, or suffer endless sadness. Trust me, I would know. To distract from the endless sadness I finished the manicure off with some dark purple studs. Against the gray polishes however, the studs take on a dark gray hue. This gives me great pleasure, not gonna lie.

So, what do you think – does this manicure make you feel sufficiently chilled?! Personally, I’m still feeling far too warm (Curse you, Summer!) but I feel like I could take on the world with these nails, so I suppose that isn’t a half-bad result. On another note, is it weird that I would totally wear my nails like this when the fiance and I finally get married? I get “wedding vibes” from this combo, and I have a feeling that I might just be a strange duck… does anyone else see it?!?!
